Chapter Ten

“What the fuck were you thinking?” Huw shouted. He couldn’t believe how hugely Rich had fucked up. Or that his older brother by minutes had used his voice control on their mate.

He rubbed at his chest, the ache in his heart was so painful he felt as if someone was trying to rip it out with their bare hands.

Rich rubbed at the back of his neck and sighed. “You felt her fear just like I did. I couldn’t stand the thought that one of us had frightened her. I needed to know what the fuck she was so scared of.”

“Shit, Rich. You’re a fucking asshole,” Zac said angrily. “You should have given her a break. We’ve only known her days. Days, not fucking months or years. We’re all just really getting to know each other. I never thought it’d be you who screwed everything up so badly. Usually I’m the one that has foot-in-mouth disease.”

“You need to go and apologize.” Huw frowned when the pain in his heart receded then faded to a dull throb. It was only then that he realized most of what he’d been feeling had been coming from Stormy. He hated that she was feeling so hurt, but only Rich was able to fix things.

“I will.” Rich stood, then hurried from the room.

Huw began to clean up the kitchen and was glad when Zac began to help. He and Zac had called after their woman when she’d run from the room and had started to follow her, but Rich had told them to give her a couple of minutes to calm down and cool off. Though he’d still wanted to follow his mate, he’d thought that maybe a few minutes to herself was a good idea, but now he wasn’t so sure.

His wolf was just as angry as he was. The furry butt hadn’t stopped pacing, snarling, and howling or trying to break free, but thankfully, he had a good handle on his animal.

He and Zac had just finished tidying up when they heard a loud crash. Dropping the dishcloth onto the sink, he and Zac sprinted through the house toward the master bedroom. The doorframe was splintered in several places and the door had a crack down the middle. When he and his youngest brother entered the room, they were just in time to see Rich stripping out of his clothes, then sinking to his hands and knees and starting to shift.

“What the fuck are you—” Huw cut himself off when he realized that Stormy wasn’t in the room. Her perfume was strong and lingered, but she wasn’t here. When he noticed the bedroom window was open and the fly screen had been pushed out, he began to panic.

Their mate had left them, and it was all Rich’s fault.

If she decided she didn’t want to have anything to do with them ever again, Huw was never going to forgive Rich.

Never.
